NW China Watercolors
The paintings on this page portray the Uyghur people and some of the other minorities of NW China, who we had the privilege to live among for many years. Currently they are facing genocide. They are described by the Chinese government as terrorists who need to be reformed. This is not at all an accurate picture of the warm-hearted, kind and intelligent people I came to know. I hope to tell a different story with my paintings; to help the world see their humanity and their dignity, and to understand that they are a people worth protecting.
This body of paintings was my consuming work from 2018 until 2024. In 2022 and 2024 I exhibited them broadly in the USA as an installation style exhibit titled "ENDANGERED: A watercolor journey through the Uyghur homeland". My aim is to document and help preserve the beautiful Uyghur culture through this exhibit.
